Upstate selects Summit Security Services to provide supplemental campus security

Upstate Medical University has selected Summit Security Services to provide supplement campus security. The five-year contract is effective April 1. Upstate’s contract with Securitas expired March 31.

Based in New York, N.Y., Summit Security Services, one of the nation largest privately held security services companies, provides security and safety for colleges and universities, healthcare and hospitals, Fortune 500 companies, airlines, airports, school districts and governmental agencies.  Summit Security Services was founded in 1976.

“I’m excited about this new partnership with Summit,” said University Police Chief Paul Waltz. “I am confident the Upstate community will be very pleased with the service and security this new arrangement offers our campus.”

Summit Security Services has offered to hire to all Securitas employees currently serving as public safety officers at Upstate. They will join 20 New York State University police officers, staff assistants and personal and contract security liaisons for a complete security force of more than 100 individuals. Job openings with Summit Security Services at Upstate are still available.

New York State University Police Officers at Upstate are statutorily bound to focus their crime prevention and quality of life efforts to SUNY Upstate, University owned/leased properties, and roadways which adjoin the University Campus.
