Team Upstate was proud to support National Go Red Day and #GoRedSyracuse on Feb. 3 in raising awareness in the fight against women's heart disease and stroke.
The Original Harlem Globetrotters and Smile Patrol ambassador Zeus McClurkin, who is also a Guinness World Record holder for the most basketball slam dunks in one minute, visited Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital Feb. 3. Zeus was in Syracuse for a Feb. 10 performance by the exhibition basketball team at the Carrier Dome.
It was standing room only at Upstate’s Black History Month Opening Ceremony Feb. 1 in the Campus Activities Building. The program featured a keynote address by Juhanna Rogers, MSW, PhD, one of eight African-American women who received national attention as the “great eight." Welcome remarks were offered by Upstate President Danielle Laraque-Arena, MD, FAAP, and a free Soul Food luncheon with a healthy twist was served. K. Bruce Simmons, MD; Interfaith Works; Allison Roberts, social worker, Community Campus; and William J. Simmons, executive director of the Syracuse Housing Authority, were honored at the event.
