C.A.B. Recreational Facilities’ incentive to join
Take advantage of the C.A.B.’s annual New Year New You promotion through Jan. 31. During this no cost-no obligation trial period, all members of the Upstate community can work out at C.A.B.’s Recreation Center that offers group fitness classes; a pool; cardio, cybex, and free weight rooms; a gym; sauna; and more. Individuals who become new C.A.B. members (not a C.A.B. member in the past two years) during the promotional period will receive a 13-month membership for the cost of on their annual individual or family membership when signed up before the close of business on Jan. 31. C.A.B. membership benefits include full facility access and special discount offers on travel and ticket programs sponsored by the Campus Activities Governing Board and the Office of Campus Activities. Individuals interested in joining the C.A.B. Recreational Center must do so in-person at the C.A.B. Information Center with their valid Upstate ID. For more information, call 315-464-8860.

Holiday closings
• Shuttle Lots I, LC, LC2 and R and the Parking Offices at  Downtown and Community campuses will be closed Monday, Jan. 15 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Downtown shuttle service, shuttle service to and from Community Campus, and the valet service, will not be available this day. All shuttle lot and Community parkers may park in the Garage west on this day. Call 315-464-4801 with questions regarding Downtown Campus parking. Call 492-5017 with questions regarding Community Campus parking.
• The Health Sciences Library will close at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14 and will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 15.
• C.A.B. recreational facilities will be closed Monday, Jan. 15. (Note: The recreational facilities will be open the weekend preceding the holiday).
• Dining areas: Deb’s Grill in the C.A.B., Betty’s Bistro in Weiskotten Hall, and the kiosks at 550 Harrison St. and at UHCC will be closed on Jan. 15. Cafe 750 at the Downtown Campus and the Community Campus cafeteria will remain open on this day.

2018 Heart Walk team captains needed
Team Upstate is looking for motivated individuals to serve as team captains for the 2018 American Heart Association Heart Walk, to be held April 21 at OCC, 4585 W. Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse. Team captains coordinate their department’s participation in the event. Team Upstate has been one of the top Heart Walk teams for the past 20 years due in large part to the efforts of its team captains. A kickoff lunch will be held for Heart Walk team captains Thursday, Jan. 25 from noon to 1 p.m. at a location to be announced. Nominations sought for Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Classified Services
Nominations for the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Classified Service will be accepted through Friday, Feb. 2. The award, created by The State University, recognizes classified employees represented by CSEA, PEF and PBA of NYS for excellence and superior service. Recipients receive a personal certificate of recognition and a Chancellor’s Excellence Medallion. Visit Human Resources for the guidelines, nomination form and more information. Nominations are welcome from any member of the Upstate community. Awards will be presented in September at Upstate’s Fall Faculty Convocation. Jan 12 is deadline for Friend in Deed funding
The Upstate Foundation is accepting applications from Upstate employees for Friend in Deed funding for projects that enhance the patient experience at Upstate University Hospital’s Community and Downtown campuses. Friend in Deed is the annual fund for the hospitals and is largely supported through donations from grateful patients and their families, as well as members of the Upstate family and the community. Guidelines and applications are available at Friend in Deed or by calling 315-464-4416. Applications require the approval of a department head. The deadline to submit applications to the Upstate Foundation office (326 CAB) is Friday, Jan. 12.

Blood drive is Jan. 18, 19
Upstate’s Blood Drive at Downtown Campus will be held Thursday, Jan.18 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 19 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Café 750. All donors will receive a $5 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card. Appointments may be made by contacting Linda Underwood, 315-464-6755, underwol@upstate.edu.

Father/Daughter Valentine Ball is Feb. 6
The Upstate Foundation’s 16th annual Father/Daughter Valentine Ball (girls aged three and up) will be held Tuesday, Feb. 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Art and Home Center at the New York State Fairgrounds. Proceeds will benefit Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. The event includes raffles, balloons, photos, special gifts, DJs, dancing and more. The cost is $55 per couple.
