On Point for College selected for Upstate’s Your Cause sponsorship for 2017
On Point for College, a local non-profit organization that helps low-income and non-traditional students overcome barriers to higher education, has been selected as Team Upstate’s Your Cause agency for 2017.
As its Your Cause agency, Team Upstate will provide On Point for College with volunteer, promotional and sponsorship support throughout the year.
On Point for College was selected for the 2017 Your Cause sponsorship after a careful review of local non-profit agency nominations submitted by the Upstate Medical University community last month.
“We are grateful to everyone who nominated a local agency for our Your Cause sponsorship,” said Zanette Howe, chair of the Team Upstate Committee. “The support and enthusiasm members of the Upstate community have for community service and their work with local human service agencies was well reflected in the nominations.”
The winning entry of On Point for College was submitted by Rhonda Butler of Volunteer Services.
“I am very excited to be able to support Upstate and On Point’s efforts collaboratively,” Butler said. “I’m honored Team Upstate chose my cause and I look forward to a productive year ahead.”
“Upstate embraces the mission of On Point for College, which seeks to broaden access to education and empower students to fulfill their dreams,” said Howe. “Many SUNY schools have welcomed these students and have made higher education attainable. We’re delighted to support On Point for College this year.”
On Point for College has been around since 1999 and has helped more than 7,200 first generation youth get into college, graduate and achieve success. On Point for College supports every aspect of a students encounter with higher education, depending on the level of support needed. On Point for College helps with the college application and financial aid process, drives students to and from college and provides them with support while in school and even during summer academic programs.
“We are pleased with the support of Upstate Medical University through Team Upstate’s Your Cause program,” said Samuel Rowser, executive director of On Point for College. “This special relationship with Upstate over the next year will help On Point for College achieve even further success in the year ahead.”
About 20 On Point for College students have enrolled or graduated from Upstate and five On Point for College alumni now work at Upstate.
Last year, Team Upstate’s Your Cause charity was Clear Path for Veterans, a Chittenango-based agency that serves veterans and their families.
