Six Upstate medical residents were selected by third-year medical students to receive Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching awards, comprised of a stipend from the foundation and an award certificate. The selection was based on their commitment to teaching and compassionate treatment of patients and families, students and colleagues. Gov. Andrew Cuomo greets Upstate Medical University President Danielle Laraque-Arena, MD, FAAP, July 8 during his stop in Syracuse for a rally to celebrate a new law that expands access to breast cancer screenings. Cuomo and his girlfriend, celebrity TV chef and breast cancer survivor Sandra Lee, traveled across upstate New York by motorcycle to raise awareness of breast cancer screening. Included among those attending the rally were members of She Matters, an Upstate Cancer Center outreach program designed to reduce breast cancer mortality by increasing mammogram screenings among residents of Pioneer Homes and the Syracuse community.
