High-tech mannequins help with emergency drills at Community Campus


Recent drill practiced responding to blunt trauma injury in patient who needed to be resuscitated.

Upstate Medical University President and Health System CEO Danielle Laraque-Arena, MD, FAAP, right, chats with staff at the recently renovated Family Birth Center during a visit to the Community Campus July 20. The post-partum care unit now features 12 large, private rooms for women and families. The newly renovated space is decorated with natural materials and soothing, calming colors. Laraque-Arena said she was very impressed with the new spaces, including the waiting room and family area, which features a fireplace, tables, a kitchen area and vending machines. Along for the tour were Chief Administrative Officer Nancy Daoust; Associate Chief Medical Officer Matthew Glidden, MD; Director of Nursing Sharon Klaiber; and Registered Nurse Gretchen Scattergood-Lipp. An additional section of the Family Birth Center is still undergoing extensive renovations and is expected to open in the fall.
