Upstate People

Cynthia Cary Woods has been named interim director of OASIS; she will continue to serve as director of the HealthLink and Smoking Cessation programs at Upstate. Since 2008, Woods has overseen approximately 775 HealthLink lectures, classes and seminars. Certified by the Mayo Clinic as a tobacco treatment specialist, Cary is a registered respiratory therapist and a registered pulmonary function technician. She has nearly 30 years of service to Upstate.

Rev. Terry Culbertson, Rev. Dr. Virginia Lawson, Alice Chico, Rev. Rita Hernandez-Wright, and Rev. Rayne Dabney, presented at the “Living the final chapter: compassionate care for persons at the end-of-life” symposium sponsored by Francis House and held March 10 at LeMoyne College. More than 150 people attended the symposium, representing a variety of disciplines and agencies.

Clare Arezina, a board-certified music therapist at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, was interviewed for a March 22 CNYCentral news story about how exposure to music can help babies learn important skills.

Upstate President Danielle Laraque-Arena, MD, was mentioned in an article, “Celebrating Women’s History Month with amazing SUNY women.” The article appeared in the March issue of SUNY’s Big Ideas blog.
