December Radiothon to benefit pediatric patients
The 10th annual Clear Channel Radiothon for Kids at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital will broadcast live from the studios of WSYR Radio, B104, and Y94 Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 5 and 6 from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 7 from 5 to 9 a.m. Hot 107.9 and Power 620 will also carry Radiothon segments throughout the three-day broadcast.
All proceeds from Radiothon remain in Central New York to benefit patients who receive care at the children’s hospital.
According to Toni Gary, director of Community Relations for the Foundation for Upstate Medical University and Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, Radiothon will highlight some of the hospital’s newest advances in pediatric research and patient care. Interviews with the children and their family members and with members of the hospital’s health and medical team will also be featured.
“Our partnership with Clear Channel Communications throughout the years has resulted in a greater awareness of the needs of our pediatric patients and their families,” says Gary. “It also has given us a broader reach in our ongoing efforts to inform Central New Yorkers of the unique patient care and research initiatives that make Upstate a leader in the care of ill and injured children.”
Throughout the broadcast, phone bank volunteers will be stationed on the second floor lobby of Upstate University Hospital, Downtown Campus, where live feeds from the hospital to the radio stations will be communicated through technology provided by Upstate’s Department of Educational Communications. Foundation staff will be on site to work with phone bank volunteers.
Gary adds that phone bank volunteers are needed. Several two-hour shifts are available. To volunteer, call Robin Grabowski at 464-5748 to schedule a time.
“Radiothon continues to be a major fundraiser for Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital,” said Gary. “We are looking for volunteers to answer the phones and to make outgoing calls to past donors to encourage them to again donate. Of course, we are also hoping that our staff and visitors will help fill the canisters. We always appreciate their generosity and commitment to the children.”
During Radiothon, and after, the public can make a donation by calling 315-464-KIDS (464-5437) or by visiting KIDS.
Radiothon is presented by the Foundation for Upstate Medical University and Clear Channel Communications. The broadcasts have raised more than $600,000 over the past 10 years.
The Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital is the region’s only Children’s Miracle Network-affiliated hospital. CMN is a non-profit organization that raises funds for more than 170 children’s hospitals nationwide. The children’s hospital is also a member of the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions.
