Joyce Mackessy, MBA, MS, associate administrator for Upstate University Hospital, received the first annual Spirit of Nancy Calhoun Award from Upstate’s Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Professional Advisory Council of the Department of Spiritual Care. The award is given to individuals who support Upstate’s CPE program and share the enthusiasm exhibited by the council’s first chair, Nancy Calhoun, L-CSW.

Carl A. Thomas Jr., of Facility Design Services, received the inaugural Mover & Shaker award from Catholic Charities in recognition of his volunteer service and community involvement. He received his award Oct. 7 at the Catholic Charities’ fourth annual Salt City Shaker fundraiser.

Usha Satish, PhD, was cited in dozens of publications and online news sites as a researcher involved in a study of how indoor environments affect productivity. Included among the publications is the World Economic Forum’s agenda.weforum.org. She also was interviewed by Syracuse’s NewsChannel 9.

Karen Kemmis, PT, DPT, of Upstate Joslin Diabetes Center, was quoted in an article on diabetesforecast.org about endurance sports and diabetes management.
