Jonathan Archey named assistant vice president for Government Relations

Jonathan Archey has been named assistant vice president for Government Relations at Upstate Medical University. Senior vice president of Operations and Upstate Medical University Chief of Staff Sergio Garcia, MSc, announced the appointment, which is effective immediately.

“The appointment of Jonathan Archery as assistant vice president for government relations closes the circle in driving a comprehensive external relations strategy that aligns Community Relations, Government Relations and Public and Media Relations agendas into a unified team working to ensure that Upstate’s One University objective speaks with one voice,” said Garcia.

Archey most recently served as vice president of Public Relations and Government Affairs at Lake Health System in Lake County, Ohio. From 2000-2016 he filled various roles at the Ohio Hospital Association, including director of Public Affairs and director of Federal Relations. His responsibilities in these roles placed him on the frontlines advocating for health care policies with state and federal legislators.

At Upstate, Archey joins the Office of External Relations. There, he will continue his work as an enthusiastic advocate, working with lawmakers and officials at all levels of government to address health care programs and policies.

Archey has also been active in his community as a Governing Board Trustee for the United Way of Lake County and a Governing Board Trustee for the Center for Health Affairs in Cleveland. He holds a masters degree in communication and leadership from Gonzaga University and earned his bachelor’s degree at Wittenberg University.
