Flu clinics will be held this week at Upstate University Hospital’s Downtown and Community campuses. The schedule is as follows:
—Jacobsen Hall clinics will be held Nov. 1, 8, 15, 29 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the sixth-floor conference room of Jacobsen Hall
—UHCC clinic will be held Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 5118
—Sarah Loguen clinic will be held Nov. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
—The Galleries clinic will be held Nov. 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Upstate’s Annual Memorial Service is Sunday, Nov. 4
The Upstate community is invited to the hospital-wide Annual Memorial Service on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018 at 2pm in the Downtown Interfaith Chapel. All families who have had a loved one die this past year have been sent invitations. Staff are also welcome to attend to remember a co-worker or loved one, or if you would like to take part by giving a reading or joining the choir in song.  If you are unable to attend, please stop by the Department of Spiritual Care, UH 1224 and fill out a memory leaf that will be read during the service. New Faculty Reception is Nov. 8
Faculty Affairs and Development will host the New Faculty Reception Thursday, Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. in the ninth floor cafeteria at Weiskotten Hall. The Upstate community is invited to welcome new faculty. Refreshments will be served.

Upstate Gala is Nov. 16
The Upstate Gala, Upstate Foundation’s 29th annual black-tie event, which will be held on Friday, Nov. 16 at the Nicholas J. Pirro Convention Center at Oncenter. Festivities begin at 8 p.m., with the pre-Gala patron and sponsor party starting at 7 pm. Proceeds will benefit child and adolescent psychiatric services at Upstate University Hospital and support the creation of a new eight-bed pediatric psychiatric unit at the hospital. Sponsorship opportunities and reservations are available online at or call the Upstate Foundation at 315-464-4416.

‘Sock Out Cancer’ socks now available
Colorful, striped “Sock Out Cancer” socks are now at Lori’s Gifts, the main lobby gift shop of Upstate University Hospital’s Downtown Campus. The multi-colored socks symbolize the fight against all forms of cancer and sell for $10 a pair, including tax. Net proceeds from sock sales will benefit the Sock Out Cancer Fund at the Upstate Foundation to support unmet needs of pediatric and adult cancer patients and their families at the Upstate Cancer Center. NYS and CSEA Partnership for Education and Training offers Skills for Success
The NYS and CSEA Partnership for Education and Training offers CSEA-represented employees with learning opportunities designed to provide employees with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to meet their personal and professional development goals. Scheduled statewide from September through December 2018 are 88 classes in 53 topic areas. To increase participation in courses while limiting time away from the office and eliminating travel expenses, the Partnership is offering 16 classes via webinar. Upstate’s iPage redesign preview available online
As part of the ongoing redesign of Upstate’s website, a new design of the Upstate iPage is available for preview. The page features a mobile-friendly responsive design, easy access to Upstate’s most frequently used applications, a hospital status dashboard, links to some of the most used web pages in the site, and an events feed featuring upcoming and ongoing events. OTD offers Emotional Intelligence classes for employees and managers
Organizational Training and Development (OTD) now offers TalentSmart’s Mastering Emotional Intelligence (EQ) class. Learn what EQ is, your EQ score, and strategies to handle yourself in times of stress and dealing with others skillfully. Supervisors/Managers answer on-line questions about themselves and invite others to anonymously answer those same questions. Non-supervisors and managers answer on-line questions about themselves. The cost for managers and supervisors is $288; $140 for non-supervisory employees. The registration fee will be charged to the participating employee’s department and covers the online assessment, a workbook for the eight-hour class, and a copy of Emotional Intelligence 2.0.
