Flavia Soto, MD, has been named assistant professor of surgery and medical director and division chief of Bariatric Surgery. Soto will see patients at Upstate’s Bariatric Surgery Program on the Community Campus. Soto earned her medical degree at Universidad Nacional de La Plata in Argentina and completed her surgical residency at Hospital General y de Agudos “General San Martin,” La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Soto then completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Florida before doing a general surgery internship and residency at New York Medical College, St. Vincent’s Hospital, New York City. During her residency, Soto also served as the general surgery chief resident. Her residency was followed by a return to the Cleveland Clinic Florida to take on a fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery. Soto is published in the areas of obesity, obesity-related conditions and bariatric surgery. She has also presented on these topics across the country as well as internationally.
