Standardized patients are key part of medical education

Upstate has a corps of “standardized patients” who are trained to portray certain medical situations for students who conduct exams for practice before caring for real patients.

Upstate Urology Chair Gennady Bratslavsky, MD, center, gets a little help for the ceremonial puck drop at the Syracuse Crunch’s Movemeber game. Throughout November, the Crunch will participate in Movember to raise awareness for prostate cancer, and support prostate cancer care and research at Upstate. The Crunch encourage fans to grow mustaches and beards to help raise awareness for men’s prostate health. The Crunch will also sell mustache and beard pinups. The pinups will cost $1, $5 or $10 and will be displayed around the arena with the donor’s name. All funds will benefit the Prostate Cancer Care and Research Fund at Upstate.
