The Brady Faith Urban Farm in Syracuse was one of six local agencies helped by the Upstate community during Upstate’s Day of Service and Remembrance Sept. 10. More than 155 students and employees assisted the agencies with work ranging from gardening to participating in activities with refugee families and patients at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. The event is an activity of Upstate’s Center for Civic Engagement.
Rosamond Gifford Zoo Educational Assistant Amy Kelley shows an elephant tooth replica to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital patient Jayden Truong, a seven-year-old boy from Boston, as his mom, Hoang, looks on. Elephants only have four teeth in their mouth and get six sets of teeth over their life span. One molar can weigh five pounds. Upstate's Child Life Program works with the Rosamond's Zoo to You program to bring educational opportunities to hospitalized patients.
